Did you know?

The QR code was invented in 1994 by Masahiro Hara at Denso Wave, a Toyota company, to track car parts on a factory line.

The idea came from a lunch break. Watching colleagues play Go, he saw how black and white stones on a grid made patterns the eye could read instantly — and built a code around it.

Those three corner squares? He went hunting through printed publications for a proportion that almost never occurs in text, so a scanner could lock onto the code from any angle, upside down, at speed.

Then Denso Wave patented it and chose never to enforce it. That's why QR is everywhere, and free.

So: a code born from a board game, engineered to be found, given away to the world — and thirty years on we print it as a grey square nobody looks at twice.

VoxelQR — a link that arrives as a 3D sculpture, then becomes the QR code.

The QR base always changes

• Your link is the code, so its length drives the matrix

• Short link → 29×29, 419 dark modules

• Long campaign URL → 41×41, 876 dark modules

• Longer link = bigger, denser plinth

The sculpture is seeded from the link

• Same link → always the same sculpture

• Different link → reshuffled, by varying amounts:

• Big city, Floating cube — ~100% of cubes move; genuinely different skyline / lattice each time

• Crystal, Portal, Island — same silhouette, shuffled detail

• Gift box, Brand (LV) — 0% change, identical by desig
